Shari began her plant-based journey after her husband Doug suffered a widowmaker heart attack at just 49 years old in 2008. Determined to find answers, she dove into research about the impact of diet on health and healing.

A Lifelong Commitment to Learning

In 2014, Shari earned her Plant-Based Nutrition certificate through eCornell, and in 2017 became a certified CHIP (Complete Health Improvement Program) facilitator. Doug, a former professional baker turned instructional developer, also completed the Rouxbe Plant-Based Professional Culinary Program.

From Personal Crisis to Public Impact

Together, Doug and Shari launched an annual 10-Day Plant-Based Challenge, guiding staff members from 75 school districts across New York State. Their efforts gained national attention, including a feature on Good Morning America.

Educators, Chefs, and Coaches

They lead plant-based cooking classes and coach training programs across school districts, growing a network of over 66 plant-based coaches in more than 35 districts. They’ve also authored three cookbooks to support their challenge participants.

A Growing Community

Shari founded the Facebook group Eat Plants Love to expand their impact. What started as an effort to save her husband’s life has grown into a thriving community of over 5,400 members and continues to inspire others every day.
