Phil's Journey

It has been three years since Phil began his journey on a whole-food, plant-based (WFPB) lifestyle. But to understand the transformation, it helps to step back and look at where it began.

For many years, Phil turned to the Standard American Diet (SAD) as a way to cope with stress and overwhelming emotions. After the death of his first wife in 1981, he became a widower raising three young children on his own. Food became his comfort. Only after each long day of being both father and mother, his version of “Mr. Mom,” would he finally sit down to eat, sometimes consuming large amounts in an effort to numb the pain. The heavy, high-carbohydrate meals often left him exhausted, and he would fall asleep feeling sedated.

That pattern led to rapid weight gain. His weight increased from 195 to 263 pounds. There is no shame in that reality, only honesty about the path that eventually led him toward change.

“When my doctor told me I could stop taking insulin after 3 months of changing my diet, I cried. Plant Based Support gave me back my future.”
