Health should support you, not shame you.

Many people begin exploring plant-based nutrition because they care deeply about their health, their values, their family, animals, or the planet.

But somewhere along the way, health messaging can become tangled with guilt.

  • Am I doing this right?
  • Am I eating the right way?
  • Is my body supposed to look different?
  • Am I failing if I am not perfect?

This webinar offers a different path.

Instead of rigid rules, shame-based motivation, or one-size-fits-all advice, this session invites you into a more respectful way of thinking about food, movement, body size, identity, access, and well-being.

You will learn how to approach health with more dignity, flexibility, and self-trust, while staying grounded in thoughtful, evidence-informed education.

This webinar is for you if…
  • You care about your health but feel exhausted by pressure, perfectionism, or conflicting advice.
  • You are plant-based, plant-curious, or trying to eat more plants and want a more compassionate approach.
  • You have ever felt guilt, shame, or confusion around food, body size, movement, or what it means to be “healthy.”
  • You want to support your body without chasing unrealistic ideals.
  • You are a clinician, dietitian, coach, educator, or community leader who wants to have more inclusive and respectful conversations about nutrition and well-being.
  • You want to feel more connected to your body, not more critical of it.
What you will explore
  • A more respectful approach to nutrition
  • Body respect as a foundation for health
  • Why identity and lived experience matter
  • How to challenge shame-based health narratives
  • Practical ways to nourish and move with more flexibility

Anthony Dissen, EdD, MPH, MA, RDN, CPH

Anthony Dissen is a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist, Public Health Researcher, and Public Health Educator whose work sits at the intersection of nutrition, public health, healthcare access, identity, and body liberation.

He is currently an Associate Professor of Health Science in the School of Health Sciences at Stockton University, where he teaches in the BS in Health Science, BS in Public Health, and Master of Public Health programs.

His scholarly work focuses on queer and gender-non-binary communities and the healthcare system, with particular attention to cultural competence, body liberation, and the unique nutrition needs and considerations of queer, transgender, and gender non-conforming people.

Anthony also studies how nutrition and health information is shared, understood, and used by consumers, especially through online and social media channels.

In addition to his academic work, he has served as the Outpatient and Community Education Dietitian at University Medical Center of Princeton, a Dietitian Instructor at CentraState Medical Center, and the Lead Educator and Chef for the Whole Foods Market Princeton Wellness Club.

This is the kind of expert voice that helps people move beyond noise, shame, and confusion into clearer, more compassionate understanding.

Why this topic matters

Plant-based living is often introduced as a path toward better personal and planetary health. But even well-intentioned health spaces can sometimes create pressure, comparison, or the feeling that there is only one correct way to do things.

This event is all about learning how to care for yourself with more respect, clarity, and confidence.

What you will leave with
  • A clearer understanding of how shame can shape our relationship with food, movement, and health.
  • A more inclusive lens for thinking about nutrition and well-being.
  • Practical language for replacing guilt-based thinking with body-respectful care.
  • A deeper appreciation for how identity, access, and lived experience influence health behaviors.
  • A more compassionate framework for plant-based living and personal wellness.
  • Encouragement to keep learning, practicing, and building habits in a way that feels sustainable.
