Plant-Based Living in an Omnivore Household is a supportive community for individuals striving to maintain a whole-food, plant-based lifestyle while living with family or roommates who follow a traditional omnivore diet. This group offers a space to share experiences, practical tips, recipes, and strategies for navigating meal planning, social situations, and family dynamics. Whether you’re just starting your plant-based journey or have been living this way for years, you’ll find encouragement, resources, and connection with others who understand the unique challenges—and rewards—of living plant-based in a mixed-diet household.

About the Host:
My name is Marilyn Tarkalson. I grew up in southern Idaho, in a family of 5 brothers. I graduated from Idaho State University with a Bachelor degree of Science in Public Health. I am a wife and mother of four sons, including three teenage boys and one adult son.

My plant-based journey has not always been easy. I face challenges everyday in encouraging my family to adopt similar eating pattens and often hear complaints about the lack of food options in the house and that my way of eating is gross. I can sometimes get off course due to not having a clean environment. I am learning to navigate living in a household of omnivores. Although I lack family support, I will not give up on my journey of living a plant-based lifestyle. I hope by being part of this group, we can help support each other while living solo in an omnivore household!
No matter where you are on your journey, you are welcome here. Join us! 🌱
